Five Questions to Ask Before Any BNPL Checkout
A pre-purchase checklist for Filipino shoppers using installment apps or marketplace BNPL at checkout.
Before you confirm an installment order, pause on these five questions:
- What is the total amount I will pay? Add every installment and disclosed fee — not just the first payment.
- What happens if I miss a date? Late fees can exceed card interest for short-term plans.
- Can I return this item under the provider's rules? Some plans continue until the provider processes a merchant refund.
- Do I already have active plans this month? Stack too many and payday disappears fast.
- Would I still buy this if I had to pay cash today? If no, installment is delaying a "no" not enabling a "yes."
Keep answers in a notes app before tapping confirm — especially for gadgets above one week's take-home pay.
